Tomb Raider First Timer

25 Feb

This article is part of a new series that I am currently writing for The Mary Sue called Late To The Game, where I play games on my backlog list that are voted on by the readers! I will be posting them here on The Geekmates after the fact, so make sure you follow The Mary Sue so you can vote on the games I will be playing next!

(You can see the original post here)

I was so excited to finally play this. As a woman and an archaeologist, I couldn’t wait to see what Crystal Dynamics had done to freshen up the old franchise. I had high hopes.

The ONLY Power Rangers Reboot I Ever Needed

24 Feb

Do you remember Power Rangers? Of course you do! Who didn’t shout “It’s Morphin’ Time” along with Kimberly, Zach and Jason Saturday mornings. I did. You did. We all did.

Well, this Power Rangers is the exact opposite of that. But HOLY HELL IN A HANDBASKET is it amazing. Joseph Kahn directs the likes of Katee Sackhoff and James Van Der Beek in what can only be described as the best thing to happen to me all week.

This is like Tarantino meets Point Break meets Machete kinda?. I’m shaking.

The PVP Podcast Episode 48 – Is Bigger Better?

23 Feb

You know the best way to start a podcast? Talking about farts. True fact.

The nice thing about farts is that everybody has them, and they are super funny.

This week Dave and I talked about Destiny, cheating the parking ticket system, paying for entertainment (or not), the intense Dragonball Z wet dream that is Asura’s Wrath, and Jupiter Ascending. Oh my god, Jupiter Ascending.

Seriously, see this movie. There is so much whisper yelling and falling and bees and space boots and shirtless Channing Tatum and soylent green goodness. You will not be disappoint. No.

Why Aren’t You Watching The 100?

20 Feb

Netflix can be a finicky mistress sometimes. A million different TV shows and movie options, suggestions out the wazoo: it can be tough to wade through all the junk and things you’ve already seen and anime to find something new that’s also good. So many options, so little time.

Even looking through your “list” can be overwhelming – as of this moment, I have 154 things in there. Yikes.

and then I end up rewatching Friends

and then I end up rewatching Friends

But sometimes you come across something golden, and you can’t help but want to share how wonderfully perfect your new find is. Which is why I 100% had to write about The 100.

Geekmates Cheapskates: Time Is On Your Side

18 Feb

It’s been a little while since I had a cheapskates tip to share, and that’s mostly because I’ve been (not on purpose) spending a lot the last few months. Between last November (shudder) and Christmas (and all the gifts and parties and get togethers that it brings), thinking of little ways to save were put on the back burner for “OMG I FORGOT THAT THING WHAT HAS MY LIFE BECOME”.

It’s February, and that means one again that new releases are starting to ramp up all over the place. Games, movies, TV shows: there’a lot of stuff to watch, read, and play. I mean, it’s no November, but the time between now and July is pretty busy, which means there’s also a lot to spend money on. So how do you juggle all these things?

yeah this.

yeah this.

My suggestion is: you don’t.
