Why Aren’t You Watching The 100?

20 Feb

Netflix can be a finicky mistress sometimes. A million different TV shows and movie options, suggestions out the wazoo: it can be tough to wade through all the junk and things you’ve already seen and anime to find something new that’s also good. So many options, so little time.

Even looking through your “list” can be overwhelming – as of this moment, I have 154 things in there. Yikes.

and then I end up rewatching Friends

and then I end up rewatching Friends

But sometimes you come across something golden, and you can’t help but want to share how wonderfully perfect your new find is. Which is why I 100% had to write about The 100.

Why I Love Xena Warrior Princess

4 Feb

There are a lot of shows I used to watch growing up that I loved but didn’t see very often. Unless you were in front of the television when a show aired, you missed it until a rerun aired. Well, thanks you Netflix, because now I am able to watch some of my favorite shows from beginning to end! Xena: Warrior Princess is one of those shows. It was one of the first shows I remember watching that had not one, but two strong and totally badass kicking female characters to look up to, it had cool mythology (which I was obsessed with as a kid/always), and over the top shenanigans to try and get out of.

yeaaahhhh

yeaaahhhh

Xena tells the story of a woman who is a warrior and also a princess (duh), and dedicates her life to protecting the defenceless and the good against so many different evils in the world, trying to make up for some not so nice things she did in the past. Also, she kinda dedicated her life to Gabrielle (but we’ll get to that). Through the 7 seasons she fights every mythological creature ever, keeps Joxer alive, has a super baby, and “aeaeaeaeaeaeaeaayyyaeaeaeaeaeae!!” scream kicks thousands of bad guy throats.

Geekmates Cheapskates: Streaming services

8 Apr

I love a healthy dose of television: reality TV, dramas, comedies, fantasies, sci-fi – you name it, and I’ll find a series to enjoy. I’m the type of person that watches TV while I’m working on schoolwork (I’m watching Arrow right now) and falls asleep to an old Simpsons or Adventure Time episode at night. Unfortunately, cable services can be really expensive, and trying to add on all the bundles to cover every aspect of your TV interests is too much for me. So today, I’m going to share with you my favorite Cheapskate ways to save money on vegging out!

and can I do it on this couch please? YES!

Backlog Update One: Netflix instant queue

7 Jan

As part of my New Years resolutions I’ve been trying to catch up on my media backlog, which includes my Netflix instant queue. And holy have I found this whole queue idea to be a slippery slope. Every time you add something new, or remove something you’ve already watched, Netflix likes to show you other things you probably missed and might like. And I always end up adding at least a couple of them, even if I had never heard of it before. I don’t know how many times I’ve finished off a movie or show only to add back 3 in its stead.

It's a trap!

You can always count on South Park

14 Aug

Tony and I both LOVE adult cartoon shows. Tony has been collecting the Simpsons box sets (irritating pop out faces included) for years, and since we started dating we have incorporated all the Family Guy, Futurama, and South Park seasons as well. And with all these we have a vast quotable knowledge of all the shows: in fact, one of the first things that attracted him to me was when I knew and sang along to every word of Mr. Burns “See My Vest”.

I REALLY like the vest!
