Geekmates Cheapskates: Price Matching

6 Aug

I really love to buy new video games, comic books and movies, but I also hate to spend my money. Which can be a bit of a problem, obviously. So in order to buy all the things and still be able to put food in our tummies, I have come up with some creative ways to save money while still getting all my geeky needs. And I’m going to share my tips with you in a new series: Geekmates Cheapskates!

Sometimes I feel like Snidely Whiplash, but then I remember my goodies : )

A lot of big box stores will price match on their merchandise with other stores in order to get your business; even better, some will even beat a competitor’s price by 10%. SO you can almost always get an extra 10% off every sale you find!

1. Browse the flyers and find something you can’t live without (obviously).

I NEED THAT!

2. Take the flyer to a different store. It’s important that the other store beats prices by 10% and doesn’t have it on sale for the same price. It has to cost more!

3. Profit.

I got it for 35.99 ! 4.00 cheaper than the flyer, and 24.00 cheaper than usual!

Keep in mind that you should only do this with things you would have purchased anyway. Buying more stuff for the sake of saving a couple bucks defeats the purpose of saving money. I still need a little work there.

Please share your ideas in the comments – maybe I can add your suggestions to this series!

Until next time!

i can relate to this in the uk we have 3 stores that are at price war
asda (part of the wallmart family)
      tesco (fairly good store)
and morisons (very crappy for game buying)

most the time its asda and tesco at war

for example i got skyrim for 10% cheaper at asda even though tesco had it on offer so its a very good idea to look around then buy

I totally agree! Why pay full price, or even sale price, when you can get just a little more off! I mean, depending on travel of course – if it takes you an hour to get to the place where there is 4.00 off it might not be worth it then haha!

Thanks Gillian! I hope that some of these will have crossover value to other things, and not just video games and comic books! xo
